I see that there are a few sunflowers that have opened up, are you guys going to be selling them this year like you have in years past? I am proposing to my girlfriend who loves them and was hoping to stop by before the weekend to purchase 10-15 of the ones that were open.
Jessica, You will find plenty of flowers open on Monday. The flowers generally stay open for a week before they start to decline. Right now, we have optimal cool weather to keep the flowers looking their best the longest. My hope is that they will look the best "overall" for our family pics next weekend.
Do you sell your sunflowers? We're having a wedding Sept 15, 2012 and the bridal bouquets will be sunflowers. Would love to buy them local as opposed to ordering from California.
Pam, We always have an "on your honor" money box in the field. That being said, you will probably want to order sunflowers from a florist. Our sunflowers are grown for bird-feed, therefore, they do not make a nice cut flower. They are full of pollen that will stain anything yellow, and they also wilt down fairly quickly. The sunflowers at a florist shop are pollenless hybreds, and they will also last much longer as a cut flower. Ordering from a florist is also a much better guarantee that you will have them when you need them. Ours bloom when mother nature says so, and then they last about 2 weeks, with bugs taking more and more chomps out of them as the time goes by. We can never know exactly when they will bloom as there are too many variables in KS. Good luck and congrats on the nuptials!!

ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes!! (Just getting you used to the sound of that word.) ;) Ted says the "honor" box is going up tomorrow so just help yourself!
ReplyDeleteOk, I will be by Friday morning to pick some out and with money for the honor box! Thank you to you and your husband! I know she will love them!
ReplyDeleteDo you think Monday night would be a good night for pictures? How fast do the rest generally open up? Thank you a million times for doing this!
ReplyDeleteOnce the sunflower have bloomed, how long do they stay open and looking nice, i.e. for photographs?

Thank you so much for doing this. We've been coming to your fields for a couple years now.
